When a Sacramento homeowner discovered tiles falling off in their bathroom, they called Project Solution Home Services for help. In almost every case we’ve encountered, water damage is especially prevalent around the tub/shower floor and surrounding walls, particularly if the baseboards are made from MDF or wood. These materials can absorb moisture over time, leading to damage. It’s always better to go with PVC or tile baseboards, which properly waterproof the floor and help prevent future water damage.
In this instance, both the subfloor and framing had rotted out, requiring us to demo the entire bathroom, including the subfloor and some framing, to make the necessary repairs. Once we had everything demoed, we tested the wood for moisture content. The results showed it was saturated, so we set up air movers to dry the area over the next few days. With daily monitoring, we were able to bring the moisture levels down to baseline readings, meaning the same level of moisture as undamaged wood. This is a critical step, as improper drying can lead to bacterial growth.
We finished the remodel by installing new glass shower doors and all new Kohler fixtures, including a new toilet. The result is a beautiful, durable bathroom that the clients will be able to enjoy for years to come.
